This volume covers a common infectious disease that afflicts millions every year--the flu--but one that has the potential of being at the center of a new pandemic, similar to the one that killed millions during This book was at its best when treating the influenza itself and not the history of medicine or the micro-biographies of several of the researchers. I learned a lot and enjoyed it, but I also had to put up with a large amount of not very interesting material. Overall, I would still recommend this book to anyone.
